Shaving is a tricky business – especially for a
woman. Yes I know we don’t have to shave every day but
we have more bits to remove hair from and they’re really not
that straight forward. I bet there are very few women –
if any – that have escaped a nasty nick on an ankle or
knee.
Gillette - Venus Divine
So it’s important to have a razor that takes these
elements into consideration and leaves you smooth and nick-free. We
put some of the leading brands to the test and here are our
results.
Boots Sensitive Disposable Razors - £0.85 for 10
- Plain orange packaging with orange hard plastic razors that had
1 blade and no lubricating strip.
- Very basic hard razor, not comfortable to hold and head was at
a strange angle. Blade cover was very difficult to get off, even
with dry hands. No grip on the handle, which was very thin to
hold.
- One blade was not effective and had to go over the same spot
several times. Blade got very blunt quickly, left my skin quite
sore and still some hairs in places.
- Did not clog.
- This was my least favourite.

Bic – Twin Lady - £2.49 for 10
- Pink packaging not exciting, quite bland.
- Razors – blue, orange, purple, green and pink.
- Twin blade with no lubricating strip.
- Cover straight forward to get off.
- Razor thin hard plastic, not ergonomically designed so it was
not very comfortable to hold. Not easy to control, blades were not
very sharp to start with and went blunt quickly. Ended up with
several nicks and had to go over the same spot several times. Skin
was not completely smooth.
- Not very easy under the arms, the head was not shaped and this
made hard to reach areas difficult.
- Clogged up easily.
- Was not impressed with this razor and after the Bic Soleil Lady
I was disappointed with the quality.

Gillette Agilite - £3.59 for 8
- Not particularly attractive or eye catching packaging just a
simple cellophane bag.
- The razors themselves were turquoise, twin blade with a vitamin
E and aloe lubricating strip.
- The handle was made of hard plastic with a small rectangular
grip and were very thin and difficult to hold.
- The blades went blunt quite quickly and so had to go over the
same place a couple of times which left skin bumpy and with a
slight rash. The blade also clogged after a short time.
- The blade cover was quite tricky to get off especially with wet
hands.

Wilkinson Sword – X’treme 3 Beauty - £7.59 for
6
- Pretty pink and turquoise packaging which was easy to open. The
cover of the blade was also easy to get off.
- Razors also pink and turquoise –
very feminine.
- The aloe moisture strip felt as though it was working.
- The handle was made of plastic and rubber which gave a good
grip, especially with wet hands. Well shaped large head, with three
blades, which flexed for easy use on contours and hard to reach
places, especially good under the arms.
- Good sharp blades which left the skin soft and smooth.

Bic – Soleil Lady - £2.99 for 4 + 2 extra
free
- Bright eye catching packaging in yellows and reds which was
very easy to open.
- Razors are also red, orange and yellow in smooth opaque plastic
– bright and funky which makes a change from pink and
pretty.
- Aloe and Vitamin E moisturising strip.
- Handles have a rubber grip which was well shaped to fit into
your hand. A good grip was achieved so razor felt sturdy and in
control. Three blades. Cover was a bit tricky to get off with wet
hands.
- Incredibly sharp heads which left the skin very smooth and hair
free without too much effort. Did not clog up.
- Very impressed with this one.

Gillette – Venus Divine - £6.69 for 1 razor with 2
spare heads
- The Venus Divine comes in blue boxed packaging with a wall
mountable storage box to hold everything.
- Razor very smooth blue plastic with moulded rubber fins for
extra grip. Ergonomically designed and extremely comfortable to
hold and use. Good grip and control.
- 3 blades and 3 moisture strips, enriched with natural Aloe and
botanical oils which smelt great. Large rounded head for
comfort.
- A bonus is that the head pivots making difficult areas very
easy to shave.
- Heads quite difficult to change the first time, very stiff, but
this did get easier with use.
- Blades very sharp, and did not go blunt, so could be used
several times.
- Skin was left incredibly soft, smooth and hair free, even after
one stroke. Did not clog.
- Although this is the most expensive it was my favourite and I
was very impressed with it.
